For those of you who are interested, Kevin would more than be happy to talk about basketball recruiting at your alumni association meeting, high school booster group meeting or any other kind of athletic type function. Just give him a call at the phone number listed on the MISSISSIPPI HOOPS homepage. I can tell you for a fact he loves to talk about recruiting and he knows all the inside info, because he talks to all the high school and junior college players.
Mississippi State has one scholarship left. As of now, it looks like Detric White will get that scholarship. I assume our coaches continue to recruit because, as of right now, they don't know if Tyrus Boswell will be academically eligible or if Horatio Webster will go pro. That is all that I know at this time.
Marcus Bullard 51603
02/28/97 - There have been a lot of rumors flying around about the status of Marcus Bullard. Hopefully, he will be released from prison this summer. Most people expect him to come back to Miss State and work on his degree. A lot of people have speculated whether he will or won't play basketball at Miss State. I have heard various rumors, some saying he will and some saying he won't. Based on the rumors that I have heard, the most likely scenario is he will be allowed to play, but as a walkon. This will satisfy most people, IMO, because he will not be taking up a scholarship but will still be on the team. I would guess, if he proves that he has turned his life around, he would have a chance for a scholarship his senior year. This is only speculation on my part, based on various rumors that I have heard. Many hard decisions have to be made by Miss State officials before this can happen. Whatever decision is made, we need to stand by it. A lot of Miss State fans want to see Marcus back in a Miss State basketball uniform next year, including myself, but whatever decision is made about him does not need to divide us. We are all one family and we need to remember that. Whatever decision is made, will be made with the belief that it is in the best interest of Miss State. Therefore, as fellow Bulldogs, we need to stand united.
02/27/97 - Even though Miss State lost to Auburn 68-64 last night, one big positive I saw was the play of Tyrone Washington. He showed last night, when he plays with intensity, he can be one of the best big men in the SEC. My wife and I both have noticed as the season has progressed, he has become more intense looking on the court. It hasn't always resulted in better play, but you can see he is improving. I look for him to improve even more next year.
02/26/97 - For those of you who don't already know it, Miss State is 1 of only 7 schools to have 2 signees from the top 60, according to ESPNet. Our two top sixty signees were #25 Tyrus Boswell and #59 Tang Hamilton. I tell you what guys, Tyrus' stature keeps going up and up.
02/26/97 - I have been hearing very strong rumors that Derrick Jones will not be back next year. I found this info in an article in The Commercial Dispatch, the Columbus, MS. newspaper. This is what Richard said about how Derrick has been doing lately: "He's a different player than he was earlier this year. He's a much tougher player and understands how we want him to play. One of the things about him is that he's not afraid to shoot. One day he is going to be a good scorer in this league." Now, does that sound like a coach that thinks Derrick won't be back next year?"
02/26/97 - I received 13 letters to Marcus Bullard Tuesday. That is great. If any of you are still thinking about writing him go right ahead. The more, the better. I would like to mail him even more than what I now have him. I will give you until next Monday, then I will mail what I have.
02/25/97 - Jabari Smith, the 6-11 JUCO Center from Atlanta Metro that Miss State is recruiting, is considered the number 1 unsigned Juco center in the country, according to Future Stars. Rick Ball's BALLPLAYERS J.C. Report said this about him: "but a pro if intensity ever gets close to his ability. +touch +mobile."
02/25/97 - Here's a name of a player Miss State may be recruiting; Eric Williams, a 6-9 center from Milford CT. Academy. Future Stars has him listed as the 7th best center of the centers that are still unsigned. Anybody know anything about this guy?
02/24/97 - According to one of my sources, Tang Hamilton just had a bad shooting night Friday night. I guess it was the same Saturday night. Like I said earlier, the flu bug has hit Lanier, so that could have been the problem. Maybe not. Sometimes players have mini slumps. Tang may be going through that right now. Just have to wait and see.
02/24/97 - Although I don't know the names of the recruits, Miss State had between 10 and 12 unofficial visiting recruits at the game Sunday. These young players sure picked a great game to come see; a 93-77 romp of Arkansas by Miss State.
02/24/97 - Saturday, Tang Hamilton scored 5 points in a loss by Lanier. However, they still advanced to the championship playoffs. I heard at the Miss State-Arkansas game, Lanier has recently been hit with the flu bug. May have been the reason Tang has only scored 5 and 9 points in his last two games.
02/23/97 - Tang Hamilton scored 9 points Friday, as Lanier HS won 72-50.
02/21/97 - The latest word on Cedric Wallace is he is trying to get a medical redshirt and play at Northeast CC next year. There is also a possiblity if Miss State signs him he will have three years of eligibility left. Stay tuned..............
02/21/97 - Here's the latest Todd Myles update:
North Idaho College is 22-3 with three regular season to go, then it is tournament time. I'm not sure about this, but Kevin Henderson told me that Todd is leading the JUCOs in assists per game. Howie Stallwick is trying to confirm this. We sure could have used his athletic ability in the Ole Miss game.
02/20/97 - Keep the Marcus Bullard letters coming folks. Thanks to all of you that have emailed yours. It's great to see the outpouring of support from the the greatest fans in the world. Keep them coming. Show you care.
02/20/97 - After the debacle in Oxford Wednesday night, some of you Dawg fans may be a little down. Well, not me folks. I'm just counting the days until next year's basketball season starts. You add our tremendous recruiting year to a more experienced team, and you have Miss State back in the NCAA tournament next year, where it belongs. Here's a little recruit info to help you guys get excited about next year.
02/20/97 - Future Bulldog Tang Hamilton had another oustanding game Tuesday night. He helped Lanier defeat Wayne County 103-74 by scoring 25 points. It appears when the games are do-or-die, Tang really steps forward. That's the third straight great game he's had.
02/19/97 - I would like to mail a bunch of letters to Marcus Bullard from all of you who read my page. All of you who are interested, email me your letters and I will mail them to Marcus. The deadline is February 26th. Come on Bulldog fans, show your support to a fellow Bulldog.
02/19/97 - Miss State signee Tang Hamilton was selected The Clarion-Ledger's player of the week after averaging 29 points and 8.5 rebounds against Forest Hill and Natchez. He is averaging 20.6 points per game for the 31-3 Lanier Bulldogs.
02/18/97 - I was told that Miss State is looking at Jabari Smith, the 6-11 center from Atlanta Metro Juco, very hard. Hopefully this will pan out and we'll sign the guy. Maybe he will give Miss State a solid backup to rest Tyrone. This will allow us to play Quentin Smith at power forward.
02/17/97 - In his last game as a high schooler, Tyrus Boswell scored 16 points in a lost that knocked his team out of the state tournament. We're waiting on you, T-Boz.
02/16/97 - Miss State is now recruiting Jermaine Ousley from Tyler CC (Tx.). He is a 6-8 "skywalker" similar to Dontae' Jones; although, he can't shoot the ball as well as Dontae' can. Washington is the leader, with Texas, Illinois, Florida State and now Miss State all interested. According to Kevin Henderson, a NBA scout told him that Jermaine may decide to go pro because he is a potential late 1st round or early 2nd round pick. From all indications, we have, at best, an outside chance to sign this big time prospect.
02/16/97 - Kevin Henderson has been flooded with calls from Miss State fans who wonder if Todd Myles is really as good as everyone says he is. Kevin tells them when you put Todd Myles around a bunch of great athletes, he makes them much better than an ordinary point guard because he has the knack of putting the ball in the hands of the player who has the best chance of scoring. His court vision is very good, plus he is an above average defender who plays hard every play.
I have also been told by the Coeur d'Alene Press sports editor, Howie Stallwick, Todd plays better when the competition is better. He is also a clutch player as evidenced by his clutch free throws a couple of nights ago against the 14th ranked JUCO team.
02/16/97 - For those of you who don't already know this, here is what a student-athlete has to make in his/her *core curriculum and ACT to be eligible to play D-I sports. Source: NCAA.

Quote: NCAA. I count 15 myself, but this is exactly how the NCAA Online Site words it. I have to assume the two maths they are talking about are algebra and geometry.
02/15/97 - The creme rises to the top: Tang Hamilton scored 34 points (4 dunks) and had 11 rebounds as Lanier won 76-65 last night.
02/15/97 - Here's what Kevin says about Detric White: "Detric is an above average shooter, who will not get shots blocked because he knows when to shoot. He also has great court vision and is an excellent defender." BTW, Kentucky is now recruiting him, while Detric has dropped Cincinnati from his list. The three teams he is now considering are Miss State (the clear leader), Kansas and Kentucky. I asked Kevin if Detric has committed to Miss State, as was reported by a Memphis AM radio station, and he said Detric has not, but it appears to him that Detric will sign with State. I can't post it, but Kevin told me he will have an interview with Detric White in his next issue. Sorry guys, Kevin allows me to post a lot of his info, for which I am very appreciative, but he can only give me so much.
02/15/97 - Here are Todd Myles' latest per game averages:
In a game Thursday night against the 14th ranked Juco team in the country, Todd scored 12 points, had 7 assists, 4 steals and 4 rebounds. He also shot 6-7 from the free throw line. Most of those were at the end of the game at clutch times. His team won 80-75. NIC is now 20-3 and ranked 16th in the country. They are averaging 92.6 points per game.
02/14/97 - Byron Mouton talked to Kevin Henderson a day ago and he told Kevin, Tulane is the clear leader with North Carolina State second and Miss State third.
02/14/97 - Kevin also told me that Jabari Smith, the 3rd Team All-American center from Atlanta Metro JC, is a very good shot blocker but is probably not tough enough for the SEC. However, he would probably be a good backup for Tyrone.
02/14/97 - Come back tomorrow for more info. I've got Detric White info coming up. Also more inside info on Todd Myles from Kevin. Remember, MISSISSIPPI HOOPS is where it's at if you want to know about Miss State recruiting.
02/14/97 - In Tyrus' last game, he scored 20 points, including one 3-pt FG, 10 rebs (I was given two other numbers, 7 and 9, so I'm not sure about this number), 1 incredible block shot. His team starts the state tournament Friday night. Hopefully, I'll get stats from that game.
02/14/97 - Here are Tyrus Boswell's season stats:
02/13/97 - Here's the latest from the greatest, MISSISSIPPI HOOPS' Kevin Henderson. He says look for Marckell Patterson to sign with Miss State. He also said his sources have told him that James Dickey of Texas Tech is the leader for the Memphis head coaching position. Number two is Ricardo Patton of Colorado. Good news for Miss State and Ole Miss.
02/13/97 - I was told at the game last night, Detric White, the outstanding point guard from Conners State CC, is telling the teams that continue to recruit him that he is coming to Miss State. My source was told this by Keith Easterwood, the talk show sports personality from WHBQ (5.6 AM on the dial). You can check out his show at 5-7 each night. According to my source, this guy really knows his stuff.
02/13/97 - BTW, Marckell Patterson and his entire family were at our basketball game last night. He sure does take a lot of unofficial visits to Miss State. This, in my mind, confirms what Kevin says, Marckell will be a Bulldog next year.
02/13/97 - Blake Holly went head to head with one of the top 10 players in Mississippi last night and scored 26 points to Nick Coln's 23 points. Like I keep saying guys, this guy is a player to watch for. BTW, his team plays Oxford Thursday night.
02/13/97 - According to Kevin Henderson, Michael Gholar and Neal Broome are both leaning to Southern Miss.
02/13/97 - Kevin Henderson also told me the Juco center Miss State is looking at is, indeed, Jabari Smith, the 6-11 center from Atlanta Metro JC whom I have previously mentioned on my page.
02/13/97 - A friend of mine saw Tang Hamilton play two nights ago. Here's what he said and I quote: "This kid is really going to be something special, better than I thought. At 6-8 he gets his shot off at will and it is a good one. Good defender." Tang scored 24 points, BTW.
02/12/97 - Tyrus Boswell scored 22 points as Mountain Brook won the Class 6A Area 11 semi-final game 79-51.
02/12/97 - In a first round division tournament game, Marckell Patterson scored 13 points against Rosa Fort.
02/11/97 - Titus Goree and another kid by the name of Jason Alston visited Delta State this past weekend.
02/11/97 - BTW, a few weeks ago a tall white kid with a flattop visited Miss State. At the time, I thought this was Kirk Haston. It was actually Neal Broome. Kevin Henderson corrected me.
02/10/97 - According to WHBQ (56.0 am) in Memphis, Detric White, the #1 point guard in the entire Juco ranks, has just committed to Miss State. Halelujah! Hope I can come up with the money to go to the "Sweet 16" next year. Myes, Boswell, Hamilton AND now White, whoaaa!
02/10/97 - I'm not sure who is recruiting this guy, but he has some fantastic stats. Tierre Brown, a 6-2 1/2 combo guard from Iowa, Louisiana, is averaging 30 ppg, 12 rpg, 6 apg, and 3 spg. He has scored 50 points in one game this year and 40 in five others. Tierre plays in the same district as Byron Mouton.
02/10/97 - Here's a list of players I know Miss State is actively recruiting:
02/10/97 - If you guys aren't subscribing to MISSISSIPPI HOOPS you are really missing out. Kevin Henderson knows his stuff. Here's a Kevin Henderson quote about Michael Gholar: "Has pro body and hops.....the ability he has overall is infinite."
02/10/97 - According to Kevin Henderson, of MISSISSIPPI HOOPS, Marckell Patterson may be the number two high school basketball player in the state before the season is over with. Rouldra Thomas is still number two, but Marckell is really pushing him.
02/10/97 - Neal Broome scored 38 points in a 73-67 victory over West Marion Saturday night.
02/09/97 - The latest skuttle-butt is Miss State is recruiting a 6-11 or 7-0 center from a JUCO in Atlanta, Georgia. Don't know his name, but I have found the name Jabari Smith, who is 6-11, and plays for Atlanta Metro JC. Not sure if this is the guy, but he is the only one I have found listed as an Atlanta JUCO center in Rick Ball's Juco publication. He is considerd the 4th best JUCO center in the country according to Rick Ball's Ballplayers J. C. Report. His freshman year he scored 17 ppg and pulled down 8 rpg. That's all I know so far. As I get more solid info, I'll pass it along.
02/08/97 -
Remember this face, because you will be seeing a lot of him next year. You ask, who is this guy? None other than Todd Myles himself.
02/08/97 - Here's the latest on Tyrus Boswell, the Monster Man from Mountain Brook. The Birmingham Postherald named him their player of the week. He averaged 24.8 ppg and 13.8 rpg. Here's his game stats for the week:
Not a bad week if I say so myself.
02/08/97 - Blake Holly scored 34 pts, had 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists in a game against New Site Friday night. Great game Blake. Hope our basketball coaches are taking note.
In case some of you are wondering why I am posting Blake Holly information on this page; I sometimes like to post info on a player who I feel is very talented, but is, possibly, being overlooked by our coaches. As I have said many times on this page, there are a lot of underrated and overlooked players in Mississippi and I am going to do as much as I possibly can to help them get "discovered". So just bear with me sometimes.
02/07/97 - For those of you who want to see Tyrus Boswell about to dunk a basketball go to this location.
02/06/97 - This weekend I will be adding a top Mississippi high school basketball players page and a top junior college basketball players page to my site. Also, I will update my list of players considering Miss State.
02/05/97 - The Monster Man from Mountain Brook keeps on doing his thing. Monday night, Tyrus Boswell scored 27 pts. and pulled down 17 rebounds in a 55-49 victory against Vestavia Hills.
02/05/97 - Here's the latest stats on some other future Bulldogs (I hope):
02/05/97 - Here's the latest on Blake Holly (The future Whit Hughes?):
He is averaging about 25 PPG and 8 assists. Here's how he did in his last two games.
02/05/97 - Basketball Times has Tyrus Boswell rated as the 5th Team Power Forward. Too low!!! Tang Hamilton is ranked the 12th Team Wing Forward.
02/03/97 - According to Kevin Henderson of MISSISSIPPI HOOPS, Marckell Patterson, the outstanding guard from Eupora, has had in-home visits from Maryland, Clemson (offered), Alabama, LSU, Miss Valley and Ole Miss (will offer). Arkansas has called him to tell him they are coming to see him play and said they will offer if they like what they see. As of now, Miss State has the lead for his services. He has been a Bulldog fan for most of his life and his parents want him to stay close to home. According to Kevin, Marckell has now moved up to #3 in the state and before the basketball season is over with, he may be #2 behind Tang Hamilton.
02/03/97 - Kevin Henderson told me today, that Tyrus Boswell was the MVP at the recent Adidas All-Star Camp. He had 40 points, 18 rebounds and 6 blocks in the game. Most of the national top 20 players were at the camp. He completely outplayed Marcus Fizer of Louisiana.
02/03/97 - 6-4 175 2G Byron Mouton (10th best player in the south), of Rayne, LA., recently added Miss State to his list and it appears, according to Kevin Henderson, we are doing very well. There is a fair possibility we will sign him. Kevin said he can shoot the ball with anyone.
02/03/97 - Kemper County HS has a couple of nice senior prospects in Maurice Kirk (16.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 3.2 apg, 3.1 spg) and Atiyyah Baseemah (15.9 pts., 5.9 rebs., 6.3 assists, 3.6 steals). As of now, I'm not sure who is recruiting them. They have recently been brought to my attention by one of my sources. You may want to watch them for future reference.
02/02/97 - With the victory today, Miss State continues to lead the SEC west by a few percentage points. Folks, with their third straight victory, it appears this team has finally started to jell. Even in an off year, Miss State continues to be the top team in the SEC west. Some people have said if you want to win the SEC west division you have to go through Fayetteville, Arkansas. I say to them you are living in the past, because you now have to go through Starkville, Mississippi. We are now the program to beat in the SEC west. And look at the next post to see some reasons why the Bulldogs will continue to be the top SEC west program.
02/02/97 - While at the Miss State - Bama game today, Saturday (Feb. 2), I found out that the following Mississippi high school basketball players were also there. Read this list and smile from ear to ear while doing so:
These were all unofficial visits. They visited State because they wanted to. We have come a long way since Richard Williams has been our head coach. When do you ever remember any one school in Mississippi having so much talent visit at their own option? Mississippi State is going to remain one of the elite programs in the SEC for years to come. Isn't it great to be a Bulldog?
BTW, if you want to read about all of these great Mississippi high school basketball players, call Kevin Henderson of MISSISSIPPI HOOPS, at 601/840-6227, and tell him Gene Swindoll told you about his publication. Kevin knows Mississippi high school basketball.
02/02/97 - Laying to rest a rumor I heard earlier this week and posted on my page, I was told today by someone who talked to a member of Whit Hughes family, Whit will be playing basketball with the Bulldogs next year.
