09/30/97 - The baseball team will be scrimmaging Tuesdays and Fridays. Contact the baseball office for the time.
09/29/97 - My sources tell me that MSU head baseball coach Pat McMahon will only have five weeks of fall practice. I have to assume this will allow the Diamond Dawgs to begin spring practice two weeks earlier than in the past.
09/29/97 - Highlights from Sunday's baseball scrimmage:
Rob Hauswald hit a grandslam home run and walked in his two at-bats for the day. He also made two good plays in the field.
Brett Wheeler's velocity seems to have increased a little bit. In the only inning my source saw him pitch, he pitched a perfect inning.
Redshirt freshman Mark Freed struck out the side in one inning.
Brad Freeman hit a 2-run home run.
In other MSU baseball news, reshirt freshman pitcher Justin Estel had arm surgery Friday. Not sure how long he will be out.
09/27/97 - According to Coach Ron Polk, Miss State will sell 5 or 6 more skyboxes since the demand has been so great. Contact your company and see if they might be willing to buy one.
09/27/97 - The baseball team will scrimmage on Sunday beginning at 12:30 p.m. If any of you make it (hopefully a lot of you will), let me know what you think. Mary Ann and I are headed to Memphis after the football game and will not be able to make the scrimmage game. I promised Mary Ann we would go see the Titantic Exhibit before it left Memphis and since this is the last weekend it will be there, the Swindoll's are headed to Memphis.
09/26/97 - All of the Polk-DeMent Stadium skyboxes have been purchased. Former Bulldog great Rafael Palmeiro purchased the last one. Bestselling author John Grisham also purchased one.
09/26/97 - Bulldog ace reliever Van Johnson is engaged to Mindy Reid of Fulton, MS. They will be married June 20, 1998.
09/19/97 - MSU's baseball practices start next Thursday. There will not be any weekend practices unless there is bad weather.
