05/15/98 - As of May 13th, here are the hitting leaders for Meridian CC (48-10):
Meridian CC plays tonight at 7 p.m. against Central Alabama in the Southeastern District Playoffs.
05/13/98 - Former New Hope Trojan pitcher Jeff Hunter has come on strong for Meridian CC the second half of the season and is now 5-1 with an ERA of 2.62. What is amazing is he has only walked 3 in 44.2 innings while striking out 39.
05/12/98 - There are a pair of outstanding DBs from the Gulf Coast area. They are the Hunter brothers out of D'Iberville, Ms. The oldest, Andy, will be a second year starter at Miss Gulf Coast this fall. He has 4.4 speed with great hands. He is 6-0, 180, and hits like a Sherman tank. His younger brother Daniel (6-2, 190), who will be a senior at DHS this fall, has excellent speed and is a big-time hitter who, like his brother, hits a ton. Look for the recruiters to come a-calling for these two top prospects.
05/10/98 - Look for Northwest CC (NWCC) free safety Dee Miller (6-2, 185, 4.45-4.5) to be a hot prospect this coming recruiting season. Don't be surprised if he and his brother Darryl Miller (NWCC, OL, 6-3, 300) seriously consider signing with the same school.
05/10/98 - Look for Northwest CC 6-2 freshman point guard James Rosser to be highly recruited next season.
05/07/98 - Look for Northwest MS CC to be very good this coming football season. With the very talented running back Kevin Jones (sophomore, South Panola HS) running behind the likes of 6-3, 260 Mickey Hawthorne (sophomore, Queen City HS, Texas), 6-5, 270 Stacy Ford (sophomore, South Panola), 6-3, 300 Darryly "Pookie" Miller (sophomore, Southaven), and 6-2, 260 Dennis Evans (sophomore, Olive Branch), NWCC should have a great season running the ball. Supposedly, the coaches have signed some top notch wide receiver talent for 6-1, 170 quarterback John Holmes to throw to. The defense should be improved even with the loss of the outstanding linebacker Shawn Johnson.
05/06/98 - Co-Lin CC won the Div-II Region 23 baseball championship this past weekend.
