11/22/97 - According to the latest J.C. Grid-Wire, Hinds CC quarterback T. T. Tolivar, in 11 games, completed 114 of 204 passes (55.9%) for 1,721 yards and 13 TDs. He also carried the ball 142 times for 805 yards (5.7 yrds per carry) and 10 TDs.

11/20/97 - Here is a roundup of last week's Juco basketball:

Meridian, with all their talent, hype and hoopla, has fallen on hard times early. Losses to Lon Morris (beaten by Pearl River in the same Texas tournament), Shelby State (beaten by Northwest) and Monday night (Nov. 17) at home to Coahoma (Coach James Washington is one of the most underrated coaches in basketball) has brought the Eagles down to earth. Still, they are the only team in the Region with the depth that Northwest has. So deep that Duck (Starkville) and Chandler (B.L. Moor) get a lot of action on the pine. It looks like there will be a lot of .500 clubs this year, after the big boys.

11/17/97 - The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) announced their All-State team this weekend. Click here to view it. You can also find it on the front page under the Football Player Lists section.

11/17/97 - A couple of you have asked me if I knew of any Mississippi Community College links. Here is Hinds CC. Check out the other WWW Links on Hinds' page for a few links to several other community colleges in Mississippi.

11/14/97 - Look for it to possibly be a two team race in Region 23 with Northwest and Meridian the most talented. Northeast, Gulf Coast, Bossier Parrish, and Pearl River are in the next tier.

Thanks to the person who provided me with this info. For some reason, my email did not get back through to you. Keep the info coming.

11/14/97 - East Miss CC's Todd Whitmore, a 6-5, 272, defensive lineman originally from Ranburne, Ala., has been offered by Miss State, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Baylor and Jacksonville State. According to The Commercial Dispatch, he will officially visit the University of Alabama this weekend and Miss State and Auburn later. He will be a December signee.

11/13/97 - If you guys want to see the best Juco players Mississippi has to offer, here's your chance. On December 6th, the annual All-Star Juco game will be played at Northeast Miss CC (Booneville, MS). The players will report on the 3rd, with practices twice a day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Most of the coaches that are recruiting these players will do their evaluation of the players during the two-a-day practices. And yes, the coaches will be in the stands and on the field, and they might even get near enough to the players to say hello. Uh-oh, better watch out for any minor NCAA rule violations.

11/13/97 - Hinds CC - Gulf Coast CC game info:

They played this game at Moss Point's stadium. T.T. Tolivaris the man! He didn't scamble much (didn't have to) but when he did he was awesome. He has a nice arm also, decent accuracy. Wes Shivers is huge! I watched him a lot and he was very impressive. He played both tackle positions. The program listed his hometown as Brandon, which I was unaware of. Kelvin Robinson, Gulf Coast QB, played well, has a great arm and scrambles well.

11/10/97 - Look for Hinds CC defensive lineman Ronald Moore (6-4, 290) to re-sign with Syracuse.

Another lineman (offensive) from Hinds CC, Wes Shivers (6-7, 315) is widely recruited by SEC schools and may be (may is the key word here) leaning to Alabama. This contradicts an earlier opinion by Mississippi Hoops' Kevin Henderson, who stated Wes is leaning to Miss State. Knowing what I now know about recruiting, these young men, in a lot of cases, say they are leaning to the latest school that they have visited or talked to on the telephone.

11/10/97 - According to a source of mine, a very knowledgeable Mississippi Juco head coach, when asked about in-state Juco prospects first mentioned Delta CC's outstanding running back Rod Gibson. The second player he mentioned was Northwest CC wide receiver Connie Moore. This doesn't necessarily mean these are the two best players, but they were the first two he thought of when asked about Juco players in Mississippi. You draw your own conclusions.

11/01/97 - Here are highlights from the Thursday night game between Northeast CC and Itawamba CC:

  • Northeast's Michael Boireau and Raheem Rontifley had numerous sacks.
  • Northeast's Bradley Prather also had a good game.
  • Itawamba's Jeffery Aaron came off the bench in the first quarter and threw close to 50 passes.
  • Itawamba's Shalando Jones caught numerous.
  • Itawamba won 22 to 14.
  • 11/01/97 - Here are several bits of info I found in J.C. Grid-Wire, an outstanding Juco publication. The individual performances are from last week:

  • Carlisle McGee, of Miss Delta CC, has made 22 of 23 PAT while making 8 of 10 field goals, one a 40-yarder.
  • Joey Pinkston, of East Central CC, has picked off 9 passes in 8 games.
  • Kelvin Robinson, of Gulf Coast CC, was 16 of 24 for 250 yards and a TD in a loss to Co-Lin CC.
  • Reginald Durden, of Co-Lin CC, had 180 yards rushing on 23 attempts.
  • Dennis Robinson, of Gulf Coast CC, caught 9 passes for 150 yards vs. Co-Lin CC.
  • Dejuan Clark, of East Central CC, had 14 solos and 3 assists in a loss to Jones CC.
  • Mike Bailey, of East MS CC, had 9 solo and 7 assists in a loss to Pearl River CC.
