10/21/97 - Here are several player evaluations from someone who went to the Northeast CC-East Miss CC game last Thursday:

  • Raheem Pontiflet - NE MS CC. Sophomore. 6-4, 238. DL. Gives great effort. Pursues with a lot of speed, although he needs to work on his quickness. Also needs to improve his footwork and upper body strength.
  • Michael Boireau - NE MS CC. Sophomore. 6-6, 252. DE. Great speed and good quickness for a man his size. Good pass rusher. Needs to work on his technique.
  • Michael Bailey - East MS CC. Sophomore. 6-0, 209. ILB. Plays with a lot of effort. Height could be a concern for his position.
  • Tywone Dyson - East MS CC. Freshman. 6-2, 202. RB. Was very impressive and is a player to watch next year.

    • 10/18/97 - In a 40-26 victory over Jones CC, Hinds CC's quarterback T.T. Tolivar passed for 183 yards and rushed for 237 yards, a total of 420 yards. Hinds' running back Terrance Williams ran for 215 yards on 29 carries. According to Kevin Henderson, T.T. Tolivar was selected as the best Juco player in the state of Mississippi by the five Mississippi juco coaches he talked to.

    In other Juco games, No. 12 Miss Delta defeated Holmes CC, 31-22. East Miss (Scooba) defeated Northeast 21-0 and Itawamba CC defeated Coahoma 45-0.

    10/16/97 - Thanks to all of you who brought it to my attention that Antowain Smith was drafted by Buffalo in the 1st round after his senior year at Houston. I failed to realize the Smith I mentioned yesterday was that Smith. At least I got my wish and another college coach gave him a chance. It's great to see good things happen to good people.

    10/15/97 - I've had several of you ask if I would start a Juco Skuttle-Butt page. Well here it is. Now all I need is for all of you that are connected to the internet and go to Mississippi Juco games to send me info. It doesn't matter if it is recruiting info, game updates or player stats. Anything will be very appreciated. I'm waiting to hear from you.

    10/15/97 - Did you know that former East Miss CC football player Antowain Smith turned down a scholarship to Auburn to take a job paying close to minimum wage to help pay for his grandmother's medical treatments. Now, this is a truly special person. I sure hope some college coach finds it in his heart to give this guy another chance someday.
