05/29/98 - I was lucky enough to be invited to the New Hope High School Baseball Banquet which was last night. To say this school's fans and students love their baseball is an understatement. There must have been 250 to 300 hundred folks at the banquet (more than most colleges have at their awards banquet). There were many awards and compliments given out.
First to the awards:
Several New Hope players earned All-Division honors:
Other things mentioned during the banquet:
New Hope has developed an outstanding baseball program and after going to this banquet, I now understand why. They have hired one of the very best high school coaches in America in Stacy Hester, built one of the very best (maybe the best) high school baseball fields in Mississippi, formed a tremendous junior varsity program, have a lot of student and community involvement in the program and the list goes on and on.
05/26/98 - At the Kosciusko Athletic Banquet last week, Josh Pettit received the Hustle/Desire Award. His brother, Jake, received the Basketball Whippet Award, which symbolizes leadership, hustle, team, etc.
05/25/98 - According to several recruiting analysts, Biloxi HS running back Rashad Jackson is the best running back prospect on the Mississippi Gulf Coast this coming football season. Well, according to another very well informed source, there is another running back on the coast who could also lay claim to this title. Deloise Moore, a 6-1, 200-lb junior with 4.5-speed and a bench press of 360, rushed for over 1,300 yards for St. Martin HS. Deloise is also a member of the state championship power lifting team. Look for big things from this young man this coming football season.
05/24/98 - Starkville Academy had five All-Conference players, pitcher Trey Wall (3rd year in a row), Jim Love, Cager Garner, Travis Garner and Andy Prosser. Cager Garner was also selected North AAAA Defensive-Player-of-the-Year and MPSA Male Athlete-of-the-Year.
05/23/98 - There will be a high school football combine in Memphis starting next Thursday, May 28. It is free to the players. I just thought some of you may want to check out some of the players who might be there. The combine will go from Thursday to Sunday. It is supposed to be similar to a regular NFL combine. Let me know what you find out if any of you decide to go. Sorry, I'm not sure where it is located. There should be something in the Memphis newspaper.
05/23/98 - Former New Hope HS baseball player Robert Shelton (now playing for Ole Miss) was selected, according to Collegiate Baseball, a 1998 Honorable Mention Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team. He ended the season batting .325 with 5 home runs and 21 RBI's in 43 games.
05/23/98 - If you are interested in who made the 1998 All-Division 1-4A Baseball Team, click here, then click the link at the top of the page.
05/23/98 - Just thought you guys would enjoy reading some info about one of the top junior baseball players in the state of Mississippi.
D'Iberville HS C-3B Randy Redmond (17 years old, 6-2, 220, 7.49 60-speed) batted (through 30 games) .560 (51-for-91) with 7 doubles, 20 home runs, 60 RBI's, 25 runs scored, 20 walks and only 8 K's.
05/23/98 - Look for the recruiting process to heat up for 1998 Dandy Dozen basketball player Roderick James (Stone County HS). He just passed his ACT. So far, Alabama and Iowa are looking at him.
05/22/98 - Here is additional info on Hernando HS baseball player Clay Dirks. Clay, according to my source, has a good breaking ball and a fastball in the low 80's. My source felt he was exceptional for a youngster his age. BTW, he is actually 13, not 14 as posted earlier.
05/22/98 - I also received additional info on Tishomingo County HS football player Jeremiah Smith. Jeremiah, who was an All-District punter, gained over 300 yards last season while serving primarily as a blocking back. He also played outside linebacker, and was the second leading tackler on TCHS.
05/19/98 - Click here to visit the most comprehensive high school football site on the 'Net.
05/19/98 - Laurel High School has a young man by the name of Guy Glorioso who is as good as they come when it comes to golf. He placed in the top 5 in several tournaments this year and has decided to attend Ole Miss where he will walk on. My source said he is a fierce competitor. Look for him to make the team and be a huge asset for the Rebels soon. He is childhood buddies with Dusty Braddock former Northeast Jones standout and Rebel walk on.
05/19/98 - I don't believe I have mentioned this but New Hope HS pitcher sensation Shane Bazzell has signed with Meridian CC. I look for Shane to be drafted in the early rounds of the MLB Amateur Draft.
05/18/98 - New Hope assistant baseball coach Tim Dowdy was recently named the new head baseball coach at Pearl HS. Here are a few facts about Tim:
Here is a quote from Tim:
"Words can't describe how much I have enjoyed my four years at
New Hope. There are so many great memories that I couldn't begin to describe them all. It has been
great to work with (New Hope Head Baseball Coach) Stacy Hester and (New Hope Principal)
Mike Halford. These two men mean a lot to me, not only as co-workers, but as true friends. I
also will never forget the many young men I have had the pleasure of working with. They have
meant so much to me while I have been there. However, I look forward to the challenge of
rebuilding a Pearl HS program and I am excited about being their choice to lead their baseball
team."
05/18/98 - Who is Clay Dirks you ask? Clay is a 6-2, lefthanded pitcher from Hernando HS. This past season he struck out 92 in 53 innings. My source told me that he throws very hard. Some of you are probably saying, big deal. There are a lot of 6-2 lefthanders who throw hard. I agree, but there aren't that many who are 14 year old 8th graders. My source told me he is the best young pitcher he has ever seen. This youngster will be heard from, folks.
05/18/98 - Biloxi HS running back Rashad Jackson (junior, 5-10, 180, 4.4/4.5) is a player to watch this coming season. Last year he rushed 128 times for 1,066 yards (avg. 8.3) and 7 touchdowns.
05/17/98 - Noxapater defeated Hamilton 11-2 Saturday afternoon --- completing a 2-game sweep --- for the state championship (their 1st in any sport). Once again, Andy Young and Judd Sanburn were the stars for the Tigers. Andy Young gave up back to back home runs in the top of the first, but then settled down and allowed only one base hit the rest of the way, while striking out 9 Hamilton batters. Andy also went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a 2-run homer. Judd played outstanding defense at 3rd base and went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a grand slam homer, which broke the game open.
BTW, I was told by a Noxapater source Hamilton is a young team that will be heard from on the playoff level the next few years.
05/17/98 - New Hope won it's second MHSAA Class 4A State Championship in the last three seasons by defeating the East Central Hornets, 4-0. New Hope scored in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead after Carey Upton had a one out single and Brad Montgomery was hit by a pitch. After a fielders choice by Jaron Andrews, Carey Upton scored on a passed ball on a very close play at the plate. New Hope added to the one run lead in the second as Shane Bazzell led off with a double, Lynn Colebrook moved the runner to third with a sacrifice bunt, and Kenneth Morrison had an RBI ground out to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. New Hope would go up 3-0 later on a single by Brad Montgomery. The final run of the game came as courtesy runner, Wesley Clay stole third and the throw from the catcher sailed into left field and allowed Clay to run home! The four runs were all Shane Bazzell needed as he took his record to 17-1, in pitching a complete game, three-hit, shutout.
05/17/98 - Thursday night, the Tishomingo County High School Braves won the Ripley Football Spring Jamboree. Other teams that participated were Ripley and Baldwyn. The Brave played each team for one half, back-to-back. TC's Jake Whitehurst (junior, 5-7, 160, 4.6) ran for 197 yards on 20 carries, quarterback Grant Smith (junior, 5-8, 195) was 2 for 3 with around 70 passing yards. Another player on TCH that you need to watch for is Jeremiah Smith, a 6-0, 215-lb fullback who runs a 4.7-4.8 forty, benches 300 pounds and squats 430.
Defensively the Braves allowed 12 points. They registered 6 sacks, 1 interception, and 15 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. TC looks forward to a very productive 1998 season.
P.S. The reason you have not heard of Whitehurst is because he has seen limited time at tailback until this spring. He played wide receiver last year and had about 500 yards receiving.
05/17/98 - Clay Dirks, remember that name. More info tomorrow.
05/16/98 - Need info: There is a football player at Northeast Lauderdale HS by the name of James Shelton who won the 100 meters (10.61) and 200 meters (22.04) State 4A Championship a week ago yesterday. If any of my Meridian sources have info on this kid, please pass it along.
05/15/98 - Here is additional info on Tunica Institute of Learning quarterback Sam Husband (Junior, 6-0, 185):
In case you are wondering why Sam did not make All-Conference his junior year, it was because he broke his leg in the 3rd game of the year and didn't play again until near the end of the season. Just to show you how tough this kid is he played a complete quarter on the broken leg. His leg is completely healed.
Other facts about Sam:
05/15/98 - On Saturday, August 29th, Moss Point HS and South Panola HS will start the Mississippi Prep football season by playing each other at Batesville, Miss. Source: The Clarion-Ledger
05/14/98 - A young man to watch in the future is West Lowndes HS baseball player Nick Hamilton (6-1, 185). Nick, only a freshman, batted .468 with 4 home runs. My source told me that Nick, who plays centerfield and pitches, has a very good arm (80 mph fastball) and good footspeed.
05/14/98 - Noxapater HS defeated Hamilton, 9-6, Tuesday night behind the hitting of Jeff Anthony (3 hits) and Andy Young (2 doubles). Hamilton was not without it's heroes as power-hitting Chris George hit a 2-run home run off of Noxapater's power-pitcher Andy Young.
05/13/98 - New Hope hosted the Hornets of East Central High School in game one of the MHSAA Playoffs. The Hornets scored two runs in the first inning off of New Hope Starting pitcher Kevin Long. New Hope tied the game in the bottom of the second as Josh Buckley and Shane Bazzell walked. Lynn Colebrook then had a bloop single to center field to tie the game at 2-2. New Hope broke the game open in the third as Chris Ball walked and then Carey Upton reached on an error, Brad Montgomery then singled in Ball and Upton. Montgomery scored on a wild pitch and the Trojans led 5-2 after three innings. Steve Oglesby relieved Kevin Long in the Top of the Fourth Inning with one out and runners at first and second. Oglesby allowed one run score as he walked two and the Trojans still led 5-3 going into the bottom of the fourth. Shane Bazzell singled to open the fourth, stole second, moved to third on an error and then scored on Lynn Colebrook's sacrifice fly. Kenneth Morrison and Carey Upton also singled in the fourth inning, however Morrison was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Brad Montgomery led off the fifth with a single and then scored on Justin Hallmark's homerun to right field. Shane Bazzell added a solo homer to left. After five innings the Trojans led 9-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Chris Ball walked, Carey Upton Doubled, Brad Montgomery was hit by a pitch, Jaron Andrews singled to drive in Ball and Upton. Justin Hallmark then doubled to the left center field gap to score Montgomery and Blake Prescott, who was running for Andrews. This ended the game with one out in the bottom of the sixth, 13-3. Steve Oglesby picked up the win in relief pitching 2 2/3 innings allowing no runs on one hit with five strikeouts. Kevin Long started and pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3. New Hope leads the best of three series 1-0.
05/13/98 - Indianola Academy coaches, teachers and parents have voted Julia Gantz the school's Most Outstanding Senior Athlete for 1997-98. The award is based not only on athletics, but academics, leadership and school loyalty. Julia participated in basketball, track and tennis and made it to the state finals in all events. In basketball, she was named Academy Class AAA All-District II and was a starter for the North team in the Class AAA-AAA All-Star game. In tennis, she and her sister, Katherine, were District II and North champions in #1 doubles before being defeated in the state championship match. In track, she finished second in the state in the shot-put. Julia was also a state finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman award. She will enter Mississippi State University this fall.
Seth Champion, a Dandy Dozen baseball player at Indianola Academy, has accepted a scholarship offer from North Florida Community College.
Four-sport lettermen at Indianola Academy for this past season are sophomores Jane Anna Harris (basketball, softball, track and tennis), John Kirk Manning (basketball, cross-country, track and golf); junior Katherine Gantz (basketball, softball, track and tennis); and senior J Gary (basketball, track, tennis and football). J will attend Mississippi Delta Community College this fall and will play basketball.
All of the above awards were presented at the IA Athletic Banquet Monday. The Colonels claimed Academy Class AAA District II titles in boys and girls basketball, boys and girls tennis, baseball and boys track. They were North Class AAA champions in boys track, boys tennis and girls tennis and were state champions in girls tennis. The IA golf team finished sixth in the state. Boys and girls basketball Coach Ace Bryant, who also serves as athletic director, was named District II Coach of the Year in both sports.
05/12/98 - Perry Liles has been named the new head coach and athletic director at Coffeville, Mississippi high school. He previosly has coached at Crystal Springs, Aberdeen, and Madison Central.
05/12/98 - There are three sophomore baseball players at Vicksburg High School who have definite college potential. The first one is Robby Goodson. As a freshman, Robby started at first base and hit .365 with 1 home run and 6 doubles in 23 games. This year he moved to third base and hit .508 with 7 home runs, 9 doubles, and a triple in 24 games. He also pitches and has been clocked as high as 87 mph. He consistently throws in the 82-84 range. The second sophomore player is Jeremy Stokes, who is a very good defensive shortstop and an excellent hitter. He also started as a freshman. I don't have his exact statistics but he hit about .350 as a freshman and over .400 as a sophomore. He also has good power for a middle infielder. The third player is a left-handed pitcher named Chris Wilhelm. He missed about half the season but pitched well in several games. He and Goodson combined on a 9 inning, 1-hit, 2-1 victory over Natchez. Chris throws in the high seventies and has a fantastic breaking ball.
05/11/98 - Have you heard of Mercy Cross HS junior pitcher Shawn Gollot? I heard from a reliable source that he can throw the ball in the high 80's. BTW, Mercy Cross defeated Philadelphia, 11-1, behind the five-inning, two-hit pitching of Gollot (9-3). Gollot also helped his cause with two hits, including a home run. Mercy Cross (20-12) now plays Nettleton (18-6) for the State 2A Championship beginning Tuesday at Nettleton (not sure if it is day or night).
05/11/98 - New Hope hosts East Central in game 1 of the MHSAA Class 4A State Championship Series at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday Night.
05/11/98 - Southaven HS has an outstanding girl's softball team that won the State Championship for the second straight year. Southaven (35-1) was led by three pitchers (two sophmores and one senior). Sophomore Nicole Ross was 8-1 with 0.14 ERA and 143 strikeouts (27 in one game). The other sophomore pitcher is Meredith Shackelford. Meredith was 10-0 on the season. The senior pitcher, also 10-0, is Courtney Stone. The team ERA was 0.50 while their batting average was .300.
A strange twist to this is the one team that defeated Southaven HS, Houston HS in Memphis, Tenn. was number 1 in Tennessee but number 2 in the Memphis Metro Area. Who was number 1 in the Memphis Metro Area you ask? How about Southaven HS. They play some dynamite girl's softball in Southaven, folks.
05/10/98 - Lauria Baria of Pillow Academy will attend Mississippi College next year and play both basketball and tennis for the Lady Chocs. Laura was a two-year starter for Pillow's basketball team, which captured two Academy Class AAAA and Over-All State titles. In tennis, Laura and her partner recently won the Class AAAA State title at No. 1 doubles and the Over-All title as well.
05/10/98 - New Hope defeated Kosciusko twice (7-0, 16-1) at Kosciusko behind the pitching of Shane Bazzell in both games. Jaron Andrews had two hits in the first game. In the second game, the Trojans had 14 hits, including home runs by Brad Montgomery (14th, new New Hope season record), Carey Upton, Chris Ball, and Justin Hallmark and doubles by Montgomery, Hallmark, Bazzell, and Lynn Colebrook.
The way Kosciusko dominated New Hope on Thursday was exactly how the Trojans dominated Kosciusko on Saturday, according to my source. New Hope is now 35-6 and will play East Central for the State 4A Championship.
New Hope Notes:
Bazzell, now 16-1, has 189 strikeouts for the season. I think that puts him in second place in Mississippi behind Randolf Salters for strikeouts in a season.
Bazzell's sixteen wins ties him with Jeff Hunter for most wins in a season at New Hope.
With the four home runs today, New Hope continues to add to its school record for home runs in a season with 49.
05/10/98 - The Indianola Academy Lady Colonel Tennis Team succesfully defended its Class AAA State Championship by taking both singles (2 points) and scoring a point in doubles. Rachael Sudduth repeated as #1 singles champion as did 9th grader Elizabeth Long at #2 singles. Julia and Katherine Gantz won their opening match, but were defeated in the #1 doubles final by Lamar Academy. The IA team is playing with only one senior -- Julia Gantz -- and should be the odds on favborite to make it three in a row in 1999. Sudduth and Katherine Gantz are juniors.
05/10/98 - Noxapater HS defeated Natchez Catheral 14 to 4 Saturday to win the south half of the state championship. They will play for the overall state championship this coming week.
Andy Young, in relief of starting pitcher Jeremy Wood, pitched 7 innings of shutout ball, while striking out 12 batters. Andy also had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-4. Prior to yesterday's game, Andy was batting .483. Other Noxapater hitters who had good days were Judd Sanborn 1-for-3 with 2 walks and Dee Hornesburger who also went 1-for-3 with 2 walks.
05/10/98 - Starkville Academy, in the class AAAA playoffs, defeated Jackson Prep 14-2 Thursday behind the outstanding pitching of junior Trey Wall (10-2) (had a no-hitter going into the 5th inning) and Friday, 10-3, behind the pitching of Jim Love (7-2).
05/08/98 - The Kosciusko/New Hope playoff game, which I went to, was all Kosciusko as the Whippets defeated the Trojans, 10-3, thanks to the hitting and defense of super junior second baseman Brent Tyler and the pitching of standout pitcher Crace Alexander.
Brent showed his hitting abiltity with 2 singles, 1 home run, 1 walk, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI. He also made an outstanding play in the hole between first and second base and nearly made another spectacular play when a ball bounced off of the shortstop and bounced high into the air. Brent, never taking his eye off of the ball, caught it in mid-air and almost threw the runner out.
Crace, pitching against a New Hope team that set a school record for homeruns this year with 42, nearly shut the Trojans completely down, allowing only 3 runs, 5 hits, 1 walk while striking out 8 in 7 innings.
Brent and Crace weren't the only Whippets that had good nights. Ricky Maness (1), Robby Horne (4) and Ben Dew (1) all had at least one or more RBI's.
New Hope was not without it's hitting stars as Justin Hallmark and Chris Ball hit home runs.
New Hope and Kosciusko conclude the playoff series Saturday at Kosciusko, beginning at 1 p.m.
05/08/98 - Here is a report on the Starkville/ Clinton HS game by a source of mine:
I went over to Yellow Jacket Field tonight to watch the Clinton-Starkville playoff game tonight. They were playing the first of a best-of-three series in the 5A North State baseball finals. Of course, the winner of this series will advance to the 5A state baseball championship showdown with the winner of the South 5A championship series.
It was a good game tonight, especially for the Clinton Arrows. Clinton won the game 9-5 behind 6.2 strong innings from Ole Miss signee Clint Farrar. He gave up 4 earned runs on the night, but actually had a 9-2 lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning. He just got tired and got a little wild. I'm not sure of his strikeout or walk totals. But Clint helped himself out in the top of the 7th inning with the Arrows leading 5-2 at the time. They had runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out, and he hit a 2-run double. Also, in that same inning, Justin Majors knocked in 2 runs with a double to make it a 9-2 lead for the Arrows. Neal Thomas homered early in the game for Clinton. They play the 2nd game of this best-of-three series on Saturday at Clinton, starting at 1:00 p.m. If there's a need for a second game, it will follow the first one.
I also have to tell you about this kid Clinton has playing catcher . I didn't pay much attention to him earlier in the season, but it looks like he has a lot of potential. His name is Blake Jones, a junior who also quarterbacked for Clinton last season. He is actually bigger than Josh Christian. Josh stands at 6-4, 210 pounds. But Blake stands at 6-5, 225! I talked to some Clinton fans who told me that some scouts have already been looking at him. Also, they told me that Josh Christian is being looked at quite a bit by Delta State. Ontario Harper looked pretty good defensively for the Arrows tonight, playing 2nd base.
05/08/98 - Here is a Noxapater HS baseball update from one of my Noxapater sources:
Noxapater won another nail-biter today beating Natchez Cathedral 4-3 in 8 innings. They managed to pull it out with 2 down in the bottom of the 8th when Dee Hornesburger hit a hard, sharp grounder the shortstop couldn't handle. Dee's been coming on strong in the post-season and is batting right at the .500 mark for the year.
Noxapater's "Thunder and Lightning", Andy Young and Judd Sanborn didn't produce much of a hitting storm today but did pretty well pitching. Andy pitched the final three innings giving up two runs in his first inning of work. Judd pitched five innings of solid ball giving up just one run.
Judd Sanborn would be a great addition to any college team. And since he and Andy Young have been best friends since early childhood, whoever picks up one stands a good chance of getting the other.
05/07/98 - Click here to go to New Hope HS assistant baseball coach Tim Dowdy's website where you can find the latest Mississippi HS baseball playoff brackets.
05/07/98 - Indianola Academy Dandy Dozen baseball player Seth Champion is planning on going to either junior college or going pro according to a friend of mine. You may not know this about Seth, but he was a very good football player as a junior.
05/07/98 - Here's the latest word on George County HS's sophomore Cory Street: He is now 6-6, 295+ pounds. He will also be competing in the State shot put finals this Saturday in Jackson, Miss.
05/07/98 - Here is some more info on several George County HS female athletes:
05/06/98 - If you have been reading this page you know that Prep Magazine and USA Today have selected five Mississippi High School players to their Pre-Season All-American team. I posted three of the five last month. They were Moss Point QB Kevin Fant, Pascagoula TE/DE Casey Gilbert and the number one player in the state Clinton RB Dontae Walker. I was told by a solid source the other two were twins. He didn't know who they were and I didn't either. Well, I believe I have finally found out who they are: 6-6, 270 Derrick and Eric Thompson, twins from Leflore County HS in Itta Bena. If anyone has additonal info on these kids, email it to me.
05/06/98 - Indianola Academy's Lady Colonel tennis team made a clean sweep of all events in the Academy North Class AAA tennis tournament and will send the entire team into Wednesday's state tournament as North #1 seeds: Rachael Sudduth, #1 singles; Elizabeth Long, #2 singles; Julia and Katherine Gantz, #1 doubles; Blair Webb and Jane Anna Harris, #2 doubles; and Paige Peyton and J Gary in mixed doubles. Joining Gary on the boys' side will be Preston Lott in #1 singles (North champion) and Ward Williams in #2 singles (North runnerup). These three boys combined to give IA enough points to claim the boys' North title, too.
By the way, Indianola Academy's 9th grader Noah Bryant broke records in the discus and shot put in the State Class AAA track meet this past weekend. His throws were 143-9 in the discus and 46-1 in the shot put. Just as a comparison, the number one academy football player in the state, Will Overstreet, threw the shot put 47-10 1/2, which was only one foot nine and a half inches more than Noah and he is a senior. Who knows the potential this kid has if he continues to work hard.
05/05/98 - If anyone has it, I need the following info on the D'Iberville catcher by the name of Redmond: height, weight and final stats.
05/04/98 - Here is the latest on Kosciusko High School's baseball team:
"Kosciusko H/S took 2 from Hernando Saturday. Anthony Rawson was the winner in the first game with Crace Alexander winning the second, both complete game victories. Randy Fuller aided the Whippets with a 3-run HR in the second game while Chris Dean had a 2-run HR in the first game.
"Kosciusko advances to Round 3, the North State Championship, against New Hope May 7 & 9. Congratulations to KHS Coach Kevin Pullen, who recorded his 200th career victory recently."
05/04/98 - In possibly the best pitching matchup this high school season, NW Rankin's Brian Owens (15-0) faces Hattiesburg's ace Jermaine Van Buren (11-0) this Thursday night at NW Rankin. If you aren't going to a local baseball game and live in the vicinity, check it out.
05/03/98 - Noxapater HS, led by Andy Young, defeated West Lincoln HS 7-1 and 6-5 yesterday. Judd Sanborn earned the victory in the first game with Young coming on in relief, fanning 5 in 2 innings. Andy also hit a 3-run home run.
In the second game, Andy picked up the victory, striking out 10 in 6 innings. In dramatic fashion, Noxapater, down 5-2 with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, staged a great comeback with a 3-run home run by Andy Young followed by a game winning Judd Sanborn solo home run.
05/03/98 - The Clinton Arrow baseball team swept Warren Central in the North state semi-finals on Saturday, 6-1 in game 1 and 8-1 in game 2. They have advanced to the North State Finals where they'll meet Starkville to decide who will play for the State 5A championship baseball crown.
